A solid and integrated response is urgently needed in light of the current evolution of disaster risk. Integration across ministries, government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and communities is essential, and will be key to determining efficiency in dealing with any potential disaster threat. According to the Coordinating Minister for Social and Manpower Policies and Minister of Home Affairs, such an approach requires a shift from a reactive one to a proactive, forward-looking, and information-based preparedness approach. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the National Disaster Council, emphasised these during the Opening Ceremony of the first series of Table-Top Exercise, TTX 2026. TTX 2026 is jointly organised by the National Disaster Management Centre and the Fire and Rescue Department.
According to Yang Berhormat, strengthening national commitment is a high priority, particularly in bridging coordination gaps, clarifying agency roles and strengthening the Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation approaches as a bulwark of agile, integrated and sustainable civil preparedness and defence.
It serves as a strategic shift towards a safer, more dynamic, structured and resilient national disaster management system. Also in attendance were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development, and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, as co-chairs of the National Disaster Council.
